This is one of the BEST virus scanners ever made, it got rid of this virus that was impersonating the windows security system.
It is possibly one of the best ones.
Malwarebytes
And here is another one that works for WindowsXP.
RegScrubXP

Could you also say what websites you have been lately that could have given you this virus?

Hope those help!

Axium idea is the best and safest solution and guaranteed removal of the said virus though you need additional knowledge in order to reformat your HDD though I think that it's not that hard.

In my opinion, it would be better if you'd get a realtime protection like COMODO which monitors everything from Internet to your PC's behaviors.

AHH be careful about taking data out of your HD... i have a mac but still i know about computers and viruses. If there is an undetectable infected file, it could be transported out. You know there are some less-than-a-kilobyte files, they can be infected easily and could be a tiny tiny textbox in one of your files. If you transfer to a portable HD make sure that it does nto get infected, because then youve ruined the drive, your going to have to pay for a pro to repair everything, and youll be screwed!bom

Lol try to think optomistic though! sunny

RegscrubXP only scans your XP registry to see if there any errors that you have made. It doesnt scan your pc for any viruses.

I agree that AVG and Malwarebytes Anti-malware are the best out there.

I had a major virus on my pc which completely stopped me from using it.
I had to format my drives to get rid of it.

What does this virus do to your pc?

My dad had Spybot Search & Destroy, and it was detecting AVG Free as a virus.
