BlueHost.com

Post by Ghost on Sat 04 Apr 2009, 9:08 am

A few months ago I decided I needed proper webhosting, and signed up with BlueHost.com. It was $160 for two years, with a free domain. I choose them because they were 'recommended' by phpBB.com. However, within a few weeks, my hosting got locked due to my forum using over my set CPU usage amount... this happened about three times.

I just like to tell people this story, because it can help people. If you're looking for forum hosting, don't choose BlueHost.com Wink

(For my current hosting, i'm setting up my own server in my house and running it there tongue )

It's not that hard actually, every computer connected to the internet can function as a webserver. In my case I'm buying a server, plugging it into the outlet for power, purchasing a separate DSL line and connecting it, then installing Linux and flash driving my files over. I'll install a few webserver tools, and get everything setup. Then I'll tie my domains to my newly created nameserver addresses, and the sites will be live.

There are many tutorials on how to do it out there, some Google'ing should get you pretty far.

I would not reccommend running a server from home. With over sellers they limit you with CPU usage the unlimited things is just a marketing trap.
