China completely banned YouTube.

YouTube use from China started dropping off the map sometime Monday night, with traffic nearly reaching a standstill by Tuesday morning. Google (which owns YouTube) has confirmed the apparent ban, though its staff is not certain of the cause. “We do not know the reason for the blockage, and we’re working as quickly as possible to restore access to our users in China,” a spokesperson says. Google does believe the Chinese government knowingly cut the access. The spokesperson, however, questions why officials wouldn’t have just blocked a specific video, as they’ve done before, rather than nixing the entire site.

YouTube has been banned by other countries as well for allowing users to upload and share videos which foreign governments in Bangladesh, Thailand, Pakistan and Turkey found embarrassing to their political regimes. Google is working to restore access to the site for Chinese citizens. This is not the first instance in which Chinese users have been unable to access the video sharing site. China blocked YouTube during the Tibet riots in March 2008. During that time protesters were burning shops and vehicles in an attempt to protest the Han Chinese influence. The riots left 19 dead.

terrible, really. then again, i'm not so surprised.

ever since i heard that the Tienanmen square search was blocked from Chinese google, i realized that it was only a matter of time.

Yeh, the chinese goverment are really very strict on whats allowed to be viewed on the internet, and getting stricter all the time.

Hmm, that's so strict for them, I hope that they only blocked the videos which they don't like rather than blocking the whole site. Poor youtube. I see, so Google owned Youtube? I never knew that until now.

Yeps it google that own youtube now, and yes, China have blocked the whole of youtube and also some websites are banned aswell.
A little while ago, some people in China copied pictures from the world art gallerys, the nude ones, which are art, and edited them all so they wernt nude anymore, then posted them onto the web.
This was in protest over China blocking any websites that have nude pictures on them.
The Chinese goverment are really getting more stricter with there people, they are blocking lots of things now which are taken for granted by all the other countries, even the UK, and were quite strict here.

Hmm, a country without google will be a total pain.
